Kid friendly Activities at Black River Cottages:

By | Black River Cottages Activities, News, Prince Edward County | No Comments

You don’t have to wander far for a fun-filled family holiday when staying at Black River Cottages. The immediate area offers plenty of kid friendly activities.

We offer 10 acres of green grass and beautiful views of the Black River. A homey area large enough for kids to roam around freely but small enough for parents to keep a watchful eye from the comfort of their cottage deck.

The zipline is about 6ft high and runs across 30 metres. Somehow the zippin’, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, never gets old..

The above ground pool is 1.4metres deep and the solar heating system will ensure a few degrees warmer water temperature. Kick back on the deck chairs while the kids splash around in the pool.

Next to the pool is a basketball hoop and this year we will be setting up our volleyball net.Challenge your cottage neighbours for a friendly game.

The playground offers endless entertainment while mom reads a book in the hammock or while dad cooks dinner on the BBQ.

We have 6 bicycles onsite that you can sign out at any time. Morrison Point Road offers a real country experience. Venture down the road, past country barns, grazing cattle and cornfields to buy local honey and fresh eggs from The Honey Shack.

Hop over to Vicki’s Veggies for a huge variety of heirloom tomatoes . Organic produce right on our doorstep. If you’re lucky you might meet the lovely Vicki with the magical green fingers. Experience true county trust by popping your money in the cash box and taking your change.

And of course a popular pit stop in Prince Edward County is just a stone’s throw from us. The Black River Cheese Factory is 500metres down the road where you can try different flavoured scoops of delicious ice cream.

Quinta Do Conde offers a true farm-to-table-experience. Fill up the tummy-tank before heading out by grabbing a fresh, seasonal, organic and healthy lunch. Also be sure to check out their “Table at the Farm”. Dinner is prepared live and served under the trees. Everything on the menu is grown organically at the farm! Yum! Be sure to hop over to their website for dates, time, menus and details.

Ask about our onsite scavenger hunt for kids and Family Olympics for larger groups.

Whether you want a quick workout, go on a fishing expedition, jump from the floating dock in the middle of the river, buy ice cream from the Black River Cheese factory or go for a sunset paddle, be sure to sign out one of our canoes, Kayaks or SUP’s. While doing that, be on the lookout for our resident Swan family.

The Black River is full of Bass, Pike and Perch. Try your luck at fishing from the dock or head down to Black River Bridge. Our own personal favourite fishing spot is a quick paddle across the river and very seldom disappoints.

Newly Renovated Cottages in Prince Edward County

By | Prince Edward County | No Comments

There are a few things in life that makes the jaw drop. It could be out of pure surprise
like being the recipient of good news. Or perhaps the shocking discovery of a open
car window in the middle of winter..

But then, sometimes it lies in the “before” and “after”. Maybe weight loss. Those photos
of a lady posing in a pair of jeans where you can fit a small soccer team in.
Or the before and after of a complete makeover. Those are the jaw droppers
that you want to show your partner or share with a friend.
It’s inspiring, exciting and just plain jaw dropping.

We recently scrolled through some old photos and thought we’ll
give you a before and after look of Black River Cottages.

Located in Prince Edward County, Black River Cottages was bought in 2012 and over
the course of 6 years underwent complete renovations.

Hummingbird:

A trusted, retired friend was the backbone behind the hard labour of the reno’s and for
the first three years he worked solo. After that a family member joined forces and these
two men worked year round. Diligent, precise and thorough.

Everything and I mean E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G was replaced.. plumping, roofs, electricity, toilets, fixtures,
appliances, furniture, cupboards, windows, flooring, drywall, decks, doors…
You name it!

Owl (Hawk, Robin and Blue Jay):

With the owner being a full-time yacht captain and world-wide traveler it took
fine planning and communication to upgrade the property. Due to the strong
work ethic and capability of these two hard working baby boomers,
the renovations were running on greased wheels.. smooth. The goal
was to create a space for families to be comfortable, that can
be enjoyed and to provide quality furnishings!

Interior of Sparrow (Starling, Chickadee and Hummingbird):

2015 was an exciting year, as it was the opening of the first four completed cottages. Having a good rhythm, the rest of the cottages were completed over the course of the next three years.
